Igor And The Hippie Land

Igor And The Hippie Land (I.A.T.H.L.) is a Franco-British duo based in Paris, formed by Igor Stanislas and Emanuel “Manu” McManus. With a rich artistic background, they first emerged under their full name, releasing four albums and two EPs.
The name itself, both evocative and paradoxical, acts as a metaphor in response to an increasingly anxious social climate—an invitation to an imagined territory, a counterpoint to reality.

The band’s story began in London, where Igor and Manu lived for five years in the late 1980s. There, they met British lyricist Claire Gristwood, who would go on to write the English lyrics for a large part of their repertoire. They also collaborated with drummer Terry Lee Miall (ex-Adam and the Ants).

Back in France, after various projects (notably Rose des Vents and Ladune), they continued their artistic path under the acronym I.A.T.H.L., developing a distinctive musical identity free from stylistic constraints. Their discography has steadily expanded with albums and singles, reflecting a constant evolution.

Their fourth album, created during the pandemic, marked a turning point. Igor Stanislas and Emanuel McManus developed a renewed creative approach, exploring a more contemporary, urban, and cinematic sound. Their music blends rock arrangements with occasional electronic textures, driven by Igor’s deep, expressive, crooner-like voice, contrasted with McManus’s sharp and inventive electric guitar work.

Refusing to be confined to any single genre, I.A.T.H.L. stands out through its ability to constantly reinvent itself.

For 2027, the duo is preparing a new concept album conceived as a return to their roots: a reinterpretation of their early compositions written in London between 1986 and 1990, within a sound aesthetic deeply inspired by the spirit of the 1960s.
